Forgive the delay in posting here. Summer activities have taken up a good share of my time with most of it being spent traveling to see my 4 children and 5 grandchildren. But I haven’t forgotten these posts and am working on the next one now. To transcribe handwritten diaries in their entirety is a bit of an ambitious project but one I absolutely love doing.
I’m also working on a new endeavor, which has become quite the undertaking, but again, one I love doing. I have around 100 (amazing) handwritten love letters from the 1860’s, Civil War Era, written by a New York Doctor to his soon to be wife. I am transcribing them in full, scanning all of the pages, researching their life and times and when all said and done, I want to start a subscription service where a person would receive beautiful replica’s of each letter, plus their full typed transcription and any research I have come up with. I would send out each segment by mail as a monthly or biweekly service. I know other people have been doing this but the difference is, mine would not be a made up story but a real life historical narrative or saga with true characters. I’ve shared a sample page below of what part of it might look like. Hopefully I can get this project finished soon.
Then our podcast. We just finished episode 68 and it’s all about one man’s adventures to the West and the National Parks in 1905. The diary we are sharing from is absolutely fantastic and his writing is so inspirational.
And between all those endeavors, I continue to try and catalog the diaries in my personal collection. I’m doing it old school; reading the diary, writing down various example excerpts, researching the author and their life and finally writing up a full synopsis.
