For the past 35+ years I have been collecting, reading and researching vintage handwritten diaries. Within that time frame I’ve read thousands of diaries, many of which are now in my private collection.
As I get up early every morning, I do it with great anticipation, knowing that when I sit down with my toast and coffee and begin reading a vintage diary, I’m about to go on a journey – a journey that brings exciting surprises every time I read the handwritten words on the pages. That moment in time, while I’m reading, takes me far away. Sometimes it’s to distant exotic lands or historical places and events from long ago. Other times it becomes an emotional journey full of deep thoughts and self searching. Yet other moments turn in to great mysteries full of secrets and surprises. But no matter what, each adventure I go on would never be possible had it not been for these amazing authors who wrote in their diaries. And because it’s an original diary, in the authors own words and handwriting, it’s like I’m a time traveler of sorts.
I’ve longed to be able to share these magical moments with others so years ago I developed a web site called Sallys Diaries which gives you an idea about who I am, plus small examples of my collection. Then 3 years ago my partner Jeff and I started a podcast called Diary Discoveries. Now I feel a need for another site that is totally devoted to the diaries in my personal collection. A site where I can share them in a deeper and more complete way, a way that I’ve never done before; with photos, links and comments.
I really hope and pray that this experience here gives you a little taste of what I get to immerse myself self in every morning (and sometimes way into the wee hours of the night). So grab your coffee and toast, sit back and enjoy an experience of real stories, by real people in their own words.
